Us Dorks in Foggia

So far... these two months in Italia have been the best in my life. Now I understand why I am the way I am... Ever since being here, there have been endless parties with my DeyGo family, to beautiful scenery's in the not so distant mountains, touching the salty Adriadic sea. Since I have been visiting the beach here every weekend, (and also swallowing the gagging water in gulps...) I have learned how to hit a ball without getting knocked upside the head by it.

Province of Foggia
Region Puglia - Apulia - Apulien, Italy
The Province of Foggia is administratively divided into 64 Municipalities. The Parco nazionale del Gargano, established in 1995, is a peninsula partly mountainous and partly covered by the remains of an ancient forest, Foresta Umbra, the only remaining part in Italy of the ancient oak and beech forest that once covered much of Central Europe, and in the north are two major salty lakes, Lesina and Varano; the coastline is a sequel of greatly spectacular bays and cliffs, a paradise for summer tourism. Monte Gargano is also the site of the oldest shrine in Western Europe dedicated to the archangel Michael, Monte Sant'Angelo sul Gargano. Another area of great beauty is the picturesque Tremiti island group. The province includes vast territories of intensive agriculture, in previous centuries largely used as pastures for the flocks coming in the winter months from Abruzzi, Molise, Irpinia and Lucania. Today is also a place of pilgrimage due to the presence of the sanctuary of San Pio da Pietrelcina (Padre Pio) in San Giovanni Rotondo.

TLC, The Learning Channel, interviewed me at Trader's Village in Houston, and they liked me. Then they met the kids, and liked them. We were flown to New York for the studio portions of the show. Details of which set in motion a major health change in the kids and I.

I am afraid I still have to bitch out my husband, but he is working very hard to get healthier, and we all are supportive of his efforts.

Some love to watch the sea bushes
appearing at dawn
To see night fall from the goose wings,
and to hear
The conversations the night sea has with the dawn.

If we can't find Heaven, there are always bluejays.
Now you know why I spent my twenties crying.
Cries are required from those who wake disturbed at dawn.
Adam was called in to name
the Red-Winged Blackbirds, the Diamond Rattlers, and the Ring-Tailed Raccoons
washing God in the streams at dawn.
Centuries later, the Mesopotamian gods, All curls and ears, showed up;
behind them the Generals
With their blue-coated sons who will die at dawn.
Those grasshopper-eating hermits were so good To stay all day in the cave;
but it is also sweet To see the fenceposts gradually appear at dawn.
People in love with the setting stars are right
To adore the baby who smells of the stable, but we know
That even the setting stars will disappear at dawn.

This is from a sequence of 48 poems,
each of them 18 lines long,
which are based loosely on the Islamic ghazal form.
In its classic form,
each stanza stands alone–has its own landscape,
so to speak–and the theme of the poem is never stated.

So the reader has much more to do than he would be used to in the contemporary English poem. When the ghazal has its full development, each stanza in a given poem ends with the same word.
This collection of poems will be published by HarperCollins in April of 2001.
